Resource Optimization

Overview

---

The Enhanced Resource Optimization feature:

• Lets you view your underutilized and idle resources 

• Gives recommendations for alternative cloud instances for underutilized resources

• Allows you to save and optimize your Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounts using:

  • Reserved Instance utilization analysis and what-if scenario simulations

  • Serverless utilization analysis and optimization recommendations

• Lets you analyse resource optimization for these cloud providers:

  • Microsoft Azure CSP: analysis will run once in 24 hours.

    • Prerequisite: You’ll need to enable continuous monitoring on your account.

  • Microsoft Azure Non-CSP or Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounts: you’ll have to manually run the analysis:

    • Click Run Assessment.

    • Select the month for which you want to run the analysis.

Run an assessment

To run an assessment for your Account:

1. Login to your HCP account.

2. Navigate to Governance & Security > Resource Optimization > Instances. The landing page displays the results of your last run analysis by default.

3. Select your Account and Year for running analysis.

4. Click Run Assessment.

View Instances

From the Instances page, you’ll be able to view these Virtual Machine (VM) Instance details:

• Total cost of your VM Instances

• Cost savings you can make by right-sizing

  • Cost of idle Instances in your account

• Summary of your instances.

  • You can select these details from the dropdown:

    • All Instances

    • Right-sized Instances

    • Idle Instances

View Reserved Instances

Click on Reserved Instances to view the details of your Reserved Instances. From the Reserved Instances page, you’ll be able to view these Virtual Machine (VM) Instance details:

• Current Reserved Instances or

• A list of Instances that we recommend you to convert to Reserved Instances.

• Click on View Analysis next to an Instance with a Reserved Instance Recommendation.

  • You’ll be able to view the cost and savings matrix for various Reserved Instances. 

  • By default, we’ll display the values for optimal costs for a Reserved Instance.

View Serverless Details -

Click on Serverless to view the details of your serverless Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounts. From the Serverless page, you’ll be able to view these Virtual Machine (VM) Instance details:

• Total cost of your VM Instances

• Cost savings you can make by right-sizing

• Over-provisioned Functions out of your Total Functions

• Errors out of the Total Invocations reported

• Functions with a high error rate (>5% error) out of your Total Functions

• Instance details like those described in View Reserved Instances

Azure Reserved Instances (v 6.8.0 Onwards)

Azure Reserved Instance is a way to reduce costs by committing to a one or three year term for a virtual machine, in exchange for a discount.

With the v6.8 release, we’ve added support for Reserved Instances for your Azure CSP account.
To view your existing Reserved Instances and Recommendations:

1. Login to your HyperCloud Platform (HCP) account.

2. Navigate to Governance & Security > Resource Optimization > Reserved Instances.

3. Select your CSP account.

You can review the reserved hours and used hours for your existing reserved instances along with potential savings and recommendations.

Recommendations

1. Select Recommendations from the drop down to view recommendations.

   • Azure reserved instance (RI) recommendations are provided through Azure Consumption Reservation Recommendation APIs based on the hourly usage data of azure resources over the past 30 days.

   • The recommendations table consists of Instance Type, Region, Number of Instances (Quantity), Term and Scope.

     • Along with each recommendation you can also see the cost, with and without reservation, and corresponding savings.

2. Click View Analysis action to view all the recommendation options available for the selected Instance Type and Region.

Reserved Instances

Select Reserved Instances from the drop down to view existing purchased reservations.

• The table summarizes the details of each purchased reservation along with the number of used hours and utilization.
